House System

St Joseph’s College has four houses:

Bosco

St John Bosco was a truly remarkable man. He demonstrated great vision and leadership throughout his life, with which he founded the Salesians of Don Bosco.

A man ahead of his time, he showed great compassion and care for the young people who were his greatest motivation in life.

Don Bosco was a man who understood the value of hard work. He led by example and encouraged this attitude in both his teachers and students. He would often ask them to SPARE NO EFFORT in all aspects of their lives, from their studies, faith development through to sport and recreation.

Prayer to St John Bosco

Lord,

St John Bosco gave his life in the service of the young,
helping them to become honest citizens and good Christians.
He enabled young people to discover the goodness that is within them and to express it in practical and courageous ways.
May we learn from his example and teachings and grow in our love of God and others.

Amen!

Rua

Fr Michael Rua was an amazing man; dedicated, driven and St John Bosco’s closest collaborator. He was a tireless and fearless worker who demonstrated great loyalty. Don Bosco had great faith in Fr Rua as his successor, when asked who should succeed him as the leader of the Salesians Don Bosco said “Michael Rua – WITHOUT HESITATION.”

Prayer to Fr Michael Rua

God our Father,

Grant that we may be inspired by Blessed Michael Rua; following his example, make us vigilant in good sense, enthusiastic in charity, and readily available to help the poor and lowly, so as to live our lives fully in the service of all.

We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen!

Savio

St Dominic Savio was an incredibly selfless young boy. He demonstrated great faith and tremendous courage in the face of illness which affected him for much of his life, and eventually claimed him at the age of 15.

Don Bosco wrote in his biography of Dominic Savio that he always acted with STRENGTH AND DETERMINATION.

Prayer to Dominic Savio

You were a student at the school of Don Bosco.
There, you learned to live in God’s presence,
to deepen your love for Jesus and his mother Mary,
and to be among young people as a source of joy,
enthusiasm, hope and goodness – a friend to all.

May your life inspire us to live in
God’s presence and encourage us to bring
God’s love to others.
We make this prayer through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen!

Magone

Michael Magone was an adventurous and energy filled young boy. His support of the younger students at Don Bosco’s Oratory and his great capacity for leadership in time led to his nickname General Mickey.

Before his death at the young age of 13, Mickey Magone made a lasting impression on Don Bosco who once said that he strove for EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING he did in life.

Prayer to Michael Magone

Michael listened to this loving call of God through Don Bosco, his life was one of inspiration and excellence.

Guide us and inspire us to be the best that we can be, virtuous and caring.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be our help in life and at our death and keep us safely on the road that leads to heaven.

Amen!
